Peak dates announced for 2011 cherry blossoms

Here’s a sure sign that spring is on its way: Earlier today, National Park Service Chief Horticulturalist Rob DeFeo announced the projected peak bloom dates for the famed cherry blossom trees along the Tidal Basin.

And to get into the pink-petaled spirit, we’ve launched a guide to this year’s festival. There you’ll find ideas for places to eat near the Tidal Basin, a podcast tour of quirky blossom-related facts, a quiz to test your cherry tree knowledge and even a haiku contest.

For even more cherry blossom info, be sure to check out the transcript from our live chat with Cherry Blossom Festival President Diana Mayhew today at noon.

Washington-area native Stephanie Merry covers movies and pop culture for the Post.
