Billy Elliot the Musical,” based on the movie about an ballet-loving English boy whose dreams are threatened by his miner father’s disapproval, is beginning a month-long stay at the Kennedy Center.

With the NBA lockout in the rearview mirror and workouts under way, it’s time to get excited for the beginning of the season of your Washington Wizards. The team will host a Fan Fest on Saturday, featuring an intrasquad scrimmage, games, prizes and the chance for fans to meet members of the Bullets & Wizards Alumni Association and the Wizard Girls. The whole thing gets kicked off with a performance by D.C. rap star Wale.

Speaking of Wale, the DMV has another rapper gaining buzz: Fat Trel. After two standout mixtapes, he’s entered the top ranks of street rappers. Trel will be backed by a live band for his Sunday performance at U Street Music Hall, what could well be a signature performance for the ascending star.
