During tourist season (read: right now), the many museums on or near the National Mall get plenty of love, and deservedly so. But this weekend presents a great opportunity to explore some of the city’s great offerings as part of the Dupont Kalorama Museum Walk Weekend. You can partake in special events and enjoy free admission at sites such as the Woodrow Wilson House, Textile Museum, Phillips Collection and others. Best of all, there’s a shuttle to take you between the different locations if you don’t want to walk.
Local event organizers Brightest Young Things are known to put on some of the best pool parties, and they’re getting back in the act on Saturday with “Bride of Hipster Camp.” The opening features DJs Junebullet (of the She.Rex parties), Lil’e (of the Right Round/Gaga vs. Madonna parties) and more at the Capitol Skyline.
Jazz musicians take over the District this weekend, with two concurrent festivals dedicated to America’s indigenous art form. The Capital Jazz Fest at Merriweather Post Pavilion boasts a lineup of Anita Baker, India Arie, Maysa, Musiq Soulchild and others. Spread across multiple venues and a whole week, DC Jazz Festival’s highlights include Diane Reeves, Toots Thielmans, Kenny Barron, Lewis Nash, Monty Alexander, Anat Cohen and more.
