In conjunction with an exhibit of Pablo Picasso’s drawings, the National Gallery of Art screens “Le Mystere Picasso,” a 1956 documentary that captured the Spanish artist at work creating black-and-white drawings and oil paintings.
THURSDAY
U.S. Poet Laureate Philip Levine, who has published 20 poetry collections, will give a lecture titled “The Forgotten Poets of My Youth.”
FRIDAY
Get your garden ready or spruce up your home with flowers purchased at this annual sale on the grounds of Washington National Cathedral. Festivities include music and dance performances, a white elephant booth, games and rides, such as the antique carousel.
SATURDAY
There are many places holding parties in honor of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg in horse racing’s Triple Crown. The fete at the aptly named Bourbon will feature free passed hors d’oeuvres, including mini Kentucky hot browns and crustless cucumber sandwiches.
SUNDAY
Head to the Bostwick House in Bladensburg, which dates to 1746, for a spring festival celebrating the War of 1812. The event features period music, craft demonstrations, children’s games and farm animals.
