Update: George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic are officially off the bill for Sunday’s Hometown Holidays. That headlining slot will now be filled by blues stalwart Taj Mahal.

Late Thursday afternoon news broke that funk legend George Clinton was hospitalized with a staph infection in his leg. His publicist told TMZ that “he will be just fine” but Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic have reportedly canceled a Saturday performance at B.O.M.B. Fest in Hartford, Conn.

This seems to put his scheduled Sunday performance at Rockville’s Hometown Holidays in serious doubt. When asked this morning whether the Mothership would indeed be landing in Rockville Town Center on Sunday, a city spokesperson wouldn’t say yes or no either way, but simply, “We’re working on it.”

Clinton is still advertised on the official Hometown Holidays Web site. We’ll pass along any updates when they become available but don’t get your hopes up about hearing “Atomic Dog” on Sunday.
