Remembering Lena Horne

A screening of "Lena Horne: In Her Own Voice" and a discussion with Susan Lacy, executive producer and creator of the PBS series "American Masters." Lena Horne's daughter, Gail Lumet Buckley, will also be present at the National Portrait Gallery.

UrbanArias Spring Festival

An opera need not last as long as an extra-innings baseball game in order to be considered a true example of the genre. The UrbanArias Spring Festival espouses brevity in its presentation of three contemporary operas, each clocking in under 90 minutes. Composer Rocky Ian Gordon's "Orpheus and Eurydice," opening tonight, is a modern take on the classic myth, while his "Green Sneakers," through April 10, is an elegy to victims of AIDS. Tom Cipullo's "Glory Denied," from Saturday through April 10, is a heartbreaking story of a long-held prisoner of the Vietnam war returning home to find life had kept moving during his 9-year absence.
