Don’t let the masala baked fish (above) throw you off: The menu at Rockville’s Spice Xing has plenty of options for vegetarians. (James M. Thresher/FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)

You ask, we answer. Earlier this week, a reader posed this question (and yes, she really plans ahead):

“My son (who likes meat) and his fiance (who is a vegetarian) will visit in September. I would like suggestions for restaurants in the North Bethesda/Gaithersburg vicinity that have good choices for both tastes. Thank you.”

Resident vegetarian Lavanya Ramanathan offered this up:

“Hi, thanks for writing. I think I can help. You didn’t mention whether there were any cuisine no-nos, or whether you were looking for formal or slightly more casual dining, so I offer a few of the nicer options here:

In Gaithersburg, there’s great dining, particularly ethnic restaurants, many of which happily accommodate vegetarians. A popular restaurant for date-nights in particular is Tandoori Nights, a contemporary Indian restaurant, with plenty of options for vegetarians as well as omnivores.

In Rockville (not too far from Gaithersburg), there’s a similar Indian restaurant, Spice Xing, which is worth the drive. It’s a staff favorite, and well-reviewed.
Thai Tanium is a Thai restaurant in Kentlands that has a whole section of its menu devoted to vegetarian dishes.

Cava, also in Rockville, is also a short drive, but worth it for the great Greek fare and the sleek environs. There are plenty of vegetable-based small plates that both can enjoy.
