Hot Chip: Profile and playlist to prep for Sunday’s concert at Merriweather

Sunday’s Hot Chip concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion marks a big step up in venue size for the U.K. electro-pop-soul outfit. The band’s past handful of winning local appearances have all been at 9:30 Club and now seems like a good time to make a leap. New album “In Our Heads” is another standout in a startlingly consistent discography, and the band’s songs continue to expand, making them appropriate for big spaces.

Sunday’s show also has an interesting undercard, featuring noisy, love them-or-hate-them duo Sleigh Bells and an opening DJ set from former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy. For those still in an LCD state of mind after catching the “Shut Up and Play the Hits” concert film on Wednesday, remember that LCD’s awesome guitarist Al Doyle also plays in Hot Chip.

To get you in the mood for Sunday’s show, read the profile of the band in today’s Weekend section, watch a clip (above) of Hot Chip performing “Don’t Deny Your Heart” on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night, plus a Spotify playlist featuring 10 of the band’s best tracks.
