Lose yourself in the epic “Les Miserables,” which opens Christmas day with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Anne Hathaway as Fantine. And if that’s not your style? There’s plenty of other reasons to get out of the house. (AP Photo/Universal Pictures, Laurie Sparham)

With the holidays, this week will feel like one very long weekend for a lot of lucky Washingtonians. Looking for the best reasons to get out of the house on Christmas Day and beyond?

After the presents have been unwrapped and every last candy cane has been consumed, catch one of the season's most buzzed-about films, including Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," or "Les Miserables," both of which will open Christmas Day. If you’re looking for post-supper entertainment, head for the Kennedy Center, where the annual All-Star Christmas Day Jazz Jam fills the halls each year. And night owls can work off all those carbs dancing to the sounds of the Godfather of Soul at the Black Cat’s annual James Brown Death-mas holiday bash, which observes the anniversary of Brown’s death on Christmas Day 2006.
