But the returning Minibar by Jose Andres will be different in significant ways, starting with a fresh location: 855 E St. NW, the former Zola Wine & Kitchen space. The larger quarters mean that (slightly) more customers can be accommodated for the avant-garde cooking show that originated as a six-stool counter on the second floor of the late Cafe Atlantico.
The returning Minibar will be able to host six patrons per seating at 6, 6:30, 8:30 and 9 p.m. The extra time slots mean a dozen diners can be entertained around the same time. Reservations will be accepted only via e-mail: email@example.com.
With artistic input from Juli Capella, the Spanish interior designer who revived the original Jaleo in Penn Quarter, the new Minibar will be “more of a journey,” said Ann McCarthy, a spokeswoman for the restaurant’s parent company, Think Food Group . Diners will start the evening with a drink in the bar, move on to a dining room with an open kitchen and end the night with something sweet in a study with a see-through fireplace — “just as if you were in Jose’s home,” McCarthy said.
As before, Minibar will be open Tuesday through Saturday. Interested chowhounds should start saving. Prices for Minibar have shot up, from $150 per person to $225. Optional wine pairings run from $75 to $200.
