Rapper Panjabi MC, who drew a huge crowd to the Millennium Stage during the Kennedy Center’s Maximum India festival, will bring his Brit flair to DJ Rekha’s semi-regular bhangra bash at the Black Cat, set for Saturday night. (Evy Mages for The Washington Post)

If you think the weekend after New Year’s will be a quiet one, you’d be mistaken.

See the best events this weekend

Friday and Saturday bring dance parties that are sure to pack in crowds, particularly the bhangra bash featuring an appearance by British/South Asian rap star of yore, Panjabi MC, at the Black Cat. And Sunday, storytelling collective SpeakeasyDC brings the best stories of 2012 to the 9:30 club, while across town at the National Gallery, you can catch a screening of films about Roy Lichtenstein through Friday, or see concert musicians perform a suite inspired by the grim art of Edvard Munch on Sunday.

But perhaps you should save up your energy to cheer on the Redskins on Sunday. If you’re not bound for the game, the most emotionally satisfying place to watch has to be Cause bar, where the proceeds from your megafandom and all your “RG3 Dollar” beers will benefit charity.
