The month-long series of embassy tours, open houses, food and drink tastings and street parties gets underway May 5 with the Around the World Embassy Tour: Forty non-European embassies bid visitors welcome from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The “Shortcut to Europe: European Union Embassies Open House,” is the following Saturday, May 12. In all, more than 70 embassies are scheduled to participate in the two events.

Additional springtime chances to explore other cultures include the Meridian International Children’s Festival, May 6; the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ Global Marketplace, May 13-14; and the Fiesta Asia Street Fair on May 19.

All Passport D.C. events are free, but expect long lines for entrance to more popular/touristy countries, or embassies that promise samples of booze and/or cheese.
