Tanlines made of 2012’s best albums. The New York duo hits DC9 on April 11. (Shawn Brackbill)

The Sweetlife Food and Music Festival kicks off the season of big, outdoor concerts as it welcomes Avicii, the Shins, Kid Cudi and many more to Merriweather Post Pavilion. A pair of New York acts — indie-pop songstress Frankie Rose and invigorating electro-pop duo Tanlines — hit town supporting new albums that could find their way onto many year-end top 10 lists. Van Dyke Parks and Iceland’s Of Monsters and Men play free shows. Daryl Hall and Sharon Jones co-headline a soulful bill at Warner Theatre. And Death Cab for Cutie goes orchestral at Strathmore.
