The Post’s Tim Carman reports the owners of Spring Valley’s beloved Wagshal’s Delicatessen plan to open a second location about a mile from their original shop, in a space formerly occupied by fellow fancy food retailer Balducci’s.

The new space will occupy 4,000 square feet along New Mexico Ave. NW and have a look and feel that evokes the meandering markets of Spain, says owner Bill Fuchs. The store will sell many of Wagshal’s signature items — prepared foods, sandwiches, house-made breads and pastries and dry-aged beef — but one thing you won’t find is beer and wine: The store doesn’t want to compete with neighbor Ace Beverage, one of the top beer, wine and spirits stores in the city.
