There’s plenty going on around D.C. on Thursday, whether you want to spend the afternoon watching football, get down to a DJ, sample some seasonal beers or just hang out with a group of friends.
But it does pay to call ahead. Notable venues that will be closed include Hill Country, ChurchKey, Jack Rose, the Passenger, Clarendon Grill and Jackie’s Sidebar. Now, let’s talk about what you can do with your Thursday.
Nellie’s Sports Bar opens at 11 a.m. for all your pre-gaming needs and promises a free slice of pie for every customer. Let me repeat that: Free. Pie.
Football fans: Duffy’s opens at noon for the Packers-Lions game. The kitchen will be closed all day, but if you buy a beer during the first half of the Packers game, you’ll get a free brat. (Note for Detroit expats: This is a Green Bay hangout.)
Speaking of football, Town Tavern, which has developed a following among local 49ers fans, is showing that 8:20 p.m. game on all its TVs, and there's a special: $2 tallboy cans from 7 to close.
Moombahton Massive IX at U Street Music Hall features the hottest and deepest moombahton tracks spun by Nadastrom, Sabo and Jen Lasher. Besides an excuse for getting out of the house, the night serves as the release party for Nadastrom’s new EP.
The Park at 14th opens late, but it’s worth an after-dinner visit: Try $4 Ciroc and Crown Royal cocktails from 9 to 10:30 p.m.
Sticky Rice won’t be serving sushi — the kitchen is closed — but the bar opens at 7:30, and it will serve $2 PBRs and $5 Jameson shots all night.
Wednesday morning update:
If you really don’t want to miss a minute of the football action, Crystal City Sports Pub is opening for breakfast at 8 a.m. and staying open until 2 a.m.
Try a selection of seasonal beers, including Anchor Christmas Ale, Avery’s Old Jubilation and Oliver’s Winter Warmer, at Meridian Pint. The Columbia Heights beer bar opens at 8 p.m.
Shadow Room’s “Go Ham” Thanksgiving celebration offers free Hennessey drinks from 10 to 11. Get on the list for free admission by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or signing up on promoter DT Nation’s Web site.
