People spend a lot of energy making sure they say farewell to the year that was with a rambunctious New Year’s Eve party, but it seems to me that it’s even more important that you welcome the new year with an exceptional brunch. Here are a few options good enough to get you out of bed on Jan. 1.

• Both Meridian Pint and the Queen Vic will be open, serving their usual weekend brunch menus on Tuesday morning.

The Black Squirrel opens at 11:30, serving a special “Let’s Get Lucky” menu of black eyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, pork tenderloin and udon soup. (All of those foods are luck-bringing in one way or another.) And beer.

• Ring in the New Year with tacos at District Taco, opening at 11 on Tuesday.

• At Nage , which reopened with new head chef Miles Vaden earlier this month, 2013 is beginning with a hangover brunch featuring Gatorade cocktails and the restaurant-favorite Kill It Skillet — a plate full of pomme frites, truffled mac and cheese, chorizo, parmesan cream and a fried egg.

• David Guas is starting the year with classics at Bayou Bakery . Plates of 18-hour black-eyed peas, eight-hour braised collard greens and sweet cornbread go for $12.

• In Alexandria, Jackson 20 is following up its Roaring ’20s-themed New Year’s Eve party with what it’s calling the “Walk of Shame” brunch. Wear your outfit from the night before and get 13 percent taken off your check.

Perry’s continues its tradition of hosting a mid-week edition of its famous drag brunch. As in years past, New Year’s Day brunchers receive a free cocktail.

• Haven’t made it to Trademark , the new cocktail and comfort food-focused Alexandria restaurant? January is a good time to try new things. Executive chef Matthew Miller’s pork-heavy special menu features bacon candy quiche and pork belly pancakes. The fixed price New Year's Day menu is $32 per person.

• The dependable brunch offerings at Addie’s will be available on New Year’s Day, along with BlackSalt , Pearl Dive and the rest of Jeff Black’s restaurants.

• And speaking of dependable brunches, one of our favorite spots for a morning pick-me up, Bourbon , will be offering brunch all day at both of its locations. Look to dishes like the Kentucky Hot Brown, a turkey melt covered in bacon and gravy, to smother the remains of your hangover.

• Up early? Crystal City Sports Pub is opening its doors at 8 a.m. with a huge buffet — with omelet and carving stations, made-to-order waffles and more ($14.99 for adults, $4.99-$6.99 for kids) — and lots and lots of college football.

• Finally, if you want to keep it simple, head to Belga Cafe , which is open with its much loved classic brunch. Get a waffle.
