Establishments can skirt the illegality of swapping goods or services for an “I Voted” sticker by opening the offers to anyone wearing any sticker, for example, or to anyone who even says the word “vote.” (At Hill Country, there’s a nominal fee of one cent involved.) I contacted the Department of Justice to see if they planned to bust any illicit taco giveaways and will update the post when I hear back.
My favorites include Art & Soul, where you can get two for one cocktails (with a friend, of course); the Diner for half-off pie; free burgers at Z-Burger; and Boundary Stone, where you will get 15 percent taken off your check. (Just remember: real patriots tip on the pre-discount total.)
Of course, you can also spend you time in line pondering your position on the area’s other big ongoing contest for Eater DC’s Restaurant of the Year.
