On Wednesday, we republished the map above showing how each state’s average Internet speed compares to the rest, but the map doesn’t totally portray the big variation within that data.
The slowest average speed—in Alaska, at 7 megabits per second—is slightly more than half that of the fastest Internet speeds of 13.7 mbps, in Virginia. To better show how wide that variation is, we thought we’d compare them to countries around the world in the chart below.
All the data comes from a first-quarter “State of the Internet” report by Akamai, the mammoth cloud services provider. The list of other countries isn’t comprehensive, but it includes each country covered in Akamai’s report.
