Virginia Tech men’s basketball Coach Seth Greenberg filled out his staff Wednesday, announcing that he has hired Jeff Wulbrun to be the program’s new director of basketball operations.
Wulbrun was an assistant at California from 1986 to 1993, where he recruited Jason Kidd. He also worked under current Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings at Illinois State from 1993 to 1997.
Wulbrun comes to Blacksburg after spending the past 15 years working in real estate in Illinois. He also served as the head boys’ basketball coach at Central Catholic High Sc hool in Bloomington, Ill., from 2002 to 2007.
He replaces Dennis Wolff, who was named Virginia Tech’s head women’s basketball coach in March.
“Jeff Wulbrun is an experienced coach and administrator,” Greenberg said in a school-issued statement. “He has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels, as well as being the president of his own corporation. He is coming back to coaching due to his passion to make a difference in the lives of young people. I expect him to have a very positive affect on our basketball operation.”
Said Wulbrun: “I have known Seth for over 20 years from our time on the West Coast and I have always had the highest respect for his coaching ability, integrity and work ethic. It is a tremendous pleasure for me join his staff as director of basketball operations at Virginia Tech. My family and I are absolutely thrilled to be moving to the Blacksburg community. I look forward to contributing to the success of the Virginia Tech basketball program in the years to come.”
