McHugh was riding his bicycle on a Northern Virginia bike trail when he swerved to avoid a group of pedestrians, Wright said in a statement. McHugh suffered a pelvic fracture that did not require surgery and is being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

McHugh is also undergoing in-patient rehabilitation at Walter Reed and won’t be back in the office until doctors clear his return. But he’s working, conducting meetings and “with full communications capability, staff interaction and support,” Wright said. (And, as any telecommuter will tell you, these days you can do virtually everything with the right set-up.)

A longtime bicycling enthusiast, McHugh was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
