Loop Fans may recall our item last July reporting that the Pentagon was considering awarding a Distinguished Warfare Medal to drone pilots who work on military bases often far removed from the battlefield.

The notion sparked some serious dissent but the Pentagon under former secretary Leon Panetta seem disposed to go forward.

But on Monday, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel canceled the medal, ordering development of a special pin or device to be attached to already existing medals or ribbons, the Associated Press reported.
