Obama, once again bitterly disappointing the Loop, tapped local attorney and huge bundler and contributor John Phillips — his original Italian family name was Filippi — to be ambassador to Italy.

Al Kamen, an award-winning columnist on the national staff of The Washington Post, created the “In the Loop” column in 1993.
