Missed opportunity? — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” that senators squandered the chance to really grill Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel on the military’s future challenges, instead focusing on Hagel’s past statements. “Knives were out,” he said.

Deep-sixing the deep-fry — USDA’s cafeteria is giving up its deep fryer as part of an effort to serve healthier lunches — but workers can still go to the “greasy spoon” in the agency’s basement for a lunch that would make first lady Michelle Obama shake her head. Or they can go to the Department of Energy’s nearby cafeteria, which is still serving the bad (for you) stuff.
