Meet YouTube’s Cosmic Panda

We hope that headline woke you up a bit as you fight the urge to fall into a post-lunch nap.

That’s right, it’s the afternoon pick-u-up.

Today it’s all about YouTube’s new look. The name of the new endeavor should appeal to geeks and animal lovers alike: Cosmic Panda.

YouTube describes Cosmic Panda as “a new experience for videos, playlists and channels.” The interface is more streamlined, fully separating the comment stream and related videos from the one you’re watching. Those videos now appear alongside the comments below the main screening area.

Unlike Google+, there are no invitations to test the feature — anyone can try it. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to opt out and use the regular YouTube interface.

So, what is Cosmic Panda’s first offering? None other than a Web classic: Nyan Cat:

If this doesn’t wake you up, nothing will.
