Curling in Capitol Hill? Archery in Adams Morgan? Fencing followed by endless traffic delays caused by a motorcade? A group wants to see these Olympic events in Washington in 2024.
News broke on Tuesday morning that a nonprofit group hopes to to lure the 2024 Summer Olympics to the Washington region.
Now, there’s still a long way to go in the entire process. My colleague Liz Clarke reports that D.C. would join 10 other U.S. cities that have expressed interest in such a bid. There will also be plenty of time before a decision is made: The U.S. Olympic Committee wouldn’t select a city to pitch until 2015, and the International Olympic Committee won’t pick a host until 2017.
But a breaking news event begets a hashtag, and that hashtag spawns a roundup of some of the responses. Twitter users quickly began offering their best suggestions along with hashtag #dcolympicevents:
