Rocky Gap Casino Resort, the picturesque gambling getaway in the mountains of Western Maryland, has opened a multi-use event center that company officials hope will help generate corporate and other group bookings.

The 5,000-square-foot Allegheny Event Center can accommodate up to 300 people in various configurations for various events. One that’s already on the books: A New Year’s Eve concert by an Alabama tribute band.

“Rocky Gap is known as a destination for meetings and events, and with our recent renovations and expansion, we are pleased that we can once again host a variety of functions,” general manager Scott Just said in a news release.

The casino at the lakefront lodge opened in May, with 558 slot machines and 10 table games, including blackjack and roulette. Three poker tables were added in October.

The upscale resort, hard by Interstate 68, has 220 guest rooms, a full-service spa and an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, in addition to Maryland’s fourth, most modest casino:  Through November, Rocky Gap Casino has generated $20.6 million in gross gambling revenue, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.
