The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that residents of the Washington region spend more on housing and related expenses, on average, than residents of any other large metro area in the country — even famously pricey areas like New York City and San Francisco.

For some struggling to pay the rent here in the D.C. area, this came as no surprise.

And to this D.C. area real estate agent, it seemed obvious.

But a fellow local Realtor disagreed.

This New Yorker was skeptical.
