Dimensions Healthcare has entered into a contract with the University of Maryland medical system to offer orthopedic medical services at Prince George’s Hospital Center, a key sign that a proposal to create a regional medical system and build a new public hospital in Prince George’s is moving ahead.

The agreement was disclosed Monday by Dimensions Healthcare President Kenneth Glover in a surprise appearance at the Prince George’s County Council which was not listed on the council’s agenda.

The Washington Post reported Sunday that a $600 million deal between the university medical system and the county was in the works, although details remain to be ironed out.
