As the Prince George’s County Council prepares to set the date for a special election to replace Leslie Johnson, Johnson bid farewell to her council colleagues and staff members in a letter.

I would like to take this opportunity to bid you all a fond farewell.

Thank you for the assistance you have provided to me and the District 6 Team during my tenure on the Council.

May God continue to bless each of you, your families and our Great County.

Most Sincerely,

Leslie E. Johnson

Council Member, District 6

The council meets Tuesday to set a date for Democratic and Republican primaries, and for a general election. So far, three candidates — Venus Bethea, Derrick Leon Davis and Arthur Turner, all Democrats — have announced plans to run for the seat representing central Prince George’s.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court Oct. 13. She pleaded guilty in June to charges of destroying evidence in a far-reaching federal corruption probe that ensnared her husband, former Prince George’s County executive Jack B. Johnson (D). Jack Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 15.
