Former Prince George’s County Council member Leslie E. Johnson (D) was scheduled to report to federal prison by Friday.

Johnson, 60, was sentenced last December to a year and a day in prison for her role in a far- reaching corruption scheme that was spearheaded by her husband, former Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson (D). Jack Johnson, 62, last month began serving a seven- year prison sentence in Butner, N.C. He pleaded guilty to taking more than $400,000 in bribes, after prosecutors said he had begun shaking down developers from almost the moment he took office in 2002.

Leslie Johnson admitted in federal court that she tried to cover up those bribes by flushing a $100,000 check down the toilet and stuffing $79,600 in her underwear as federal agents knocked at her door on Nov. 12, 2010. She pleaded guilty to destroying evidence and is expected to serve her sentence at a federal correctional institution in Alderson, W. Va., where Martha Stewart was incarcerated.

The low-security prison has several nicknames, among them “Camp Cupcake.”

Leslie Johnson’s attorney Shawn Wright did not respond to requests for comment.
