The Montgomery County planning department will furlough its employees for five days this month.
The department will close its headquarters in Silver Spring from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2. The five-day furlough is a part of a cost-saving strategy for the department’s fiscal year 2012 operating budget, department spokeswoman Valerie Berton said Wednesday.
Montgomery’s parks and planning departments are part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which also represents Prince George’s County.
It is unclear whether the Montgomery parks department will have a similar employee furlough. The park and planning departments in Prince George’s did not have furloughs this year, said spokeswoman Andrea G. Davey.
