No library for you tomorrow! (Astrid Riecken/FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)

Might be a great day for the wee ones to head down to the neighborhood library for some quiet, wholesome fun, right?

It would, except that all D.C. Public Library branches are closing Friday, as well, for “staff development.”

George Williams, a library spokesman, said the timing of the library’s training day is a “coincidence” and noted that libraries also closed last year on the first Friday of December. He was unaware that DCPS was also closing and hadn’t heard any complaints.

But never fear, parents: District recreation centers will in fact be open.

John Stokes, a spokesman for the parks and recreation department, said many locations will be opening earlier to accommodate schoolkids.

”We do everything for everyone all the time,” Stokes said. “We’re open for business.”
