Being the subject of a recent photographic makeover myself, I asked Gray’s communication director, Linda Wharton Boyd, what message the mayor was trying to send with the new pic. Has the wide-eyed grin of a newly-elected man given way to the more measured visage of a battered incumbent? Is Gray’s new eye contact an acknowledgment he needs to reconnect with his constituents?

Nothing so dramatic, said Wharton Boyd. “That’s his official portrait,” she said of the new pic. “Citizens and everyone seem to like that better.”

True enough.

Wharton Boyd said that more online changes are coming. “We’re working on developing a whole new Web site,” she said. “It will be must more robust and engaging. We’re looking at new platforms and all of that.”
