When Health Department inspectors showed up last month at Sam Wang Produce, a wholesaler in the Florida Avenue Market, so did a D.C. Council member. That, according to health officials, was Vincent Orange (D-At Large), who attempted to intervene to stop the market’s closure for various “imminent health hazards” according to a report first posted at the Titan of Trinidad. Note that market owner Sang Oh Choi is a frequent donor to Orange’s political campaigns. In a statement, Orange said he intervened to help the market get a quicker re-inspection lest a prolonged closure cause “40 employees to be off work without pay during the Christmas holiday, loss of business income, loss of D.C. tax revenue and effect consumers who purchase wholesale produce for their business operations.” More from WUSA-TV.
