Updated 5:10 p.m. with Bowser campaign statement
“Happy” may have been the official theme song for unsuccessful mayoral candidate Vincent Orange, but it’s Democratic primary winner Muriel E. Bowser who is happy Thursday to have the backing of performer and producer Pharrell Williams.
The president of the United States notwithstanding, Pharrell is easily the biggest celebrity to wade into D.C. mayoral politics since Danny Glover headlined a fundraiser for Democratic candidate Andy Shallal.
A statement from the Bowser campaign revealed nothing about how Pharrell become compelled to tweet about their candidate, complete with her pet #all8wards hashtag. “Muriel is happy to have a broad coalition of support in this campaign. From presidents and entertainers to volunteers and advocates, people recognize the importance of Democratic leadership in the nation’s capital,” said spokesman Joaquin McPeek.
