Mountains have been moved, the D.C. Council schedule has been adjusted, and Mayor-elect Muriel E. Bowser (D) is traveling to California next week to help make the city’s final pitch to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Bowser was initially resistant to joining the D.C. 2024 delegation for its journey to northern California, citing a conflict with the Dec. 16 council meeting — the final legislative session of the council period. Many high-stakes votes are scheduled, including final approval of the D.C. United stadium deal.

But people involved in the bid approached Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) about moving the meeting back a day, and after several days in flux, Mendelson arrived at a Solomonic compromise: The Committee of the Whole meeting will take place Tuesday, but the legislative meeting that traditionally follows immediately will instead be moved to Wednesday.

That will allow Bowser to join the Olympic pitch, transition spokesman Joaquin McPeek said. “She’s excited to be representing her hometown in its bid to bring the Olympic Games to the region,” he said.

Washington City Paper first reported Bowser’s plans Friday.

Each bid city is allowed five presenters, and the Post’s Dave Sheinin reports that Bowser will join D.C. 2024 chairmen Ted Leonsis and Russ Ramsey in that role, along with former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Montgomery County-native Olympic swimming champ Katie Ledecky.
