Alex Cora, Jerry Hairston in today’s Nationals lineup

The Nationals are going with different, considerably older look in the middle infield today, starting Jerry Hairston at second base and Alex Cora at shortstop in place of Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa.

Manager Jim Riggleman had planned to get Hairston and Cora action because of the frequent off days early in the season, so it would seem their presence in the lineup is not a reflection of the Nationals’ confidence in Ian Desmond, who is 0 for 13 as the leadoff hitter, or Danny Espinosa, who went 4 for 10 in the opening series but on Sunday misplayed several defensive chances he typically converts.

It’s possible the Nationals and Marlins will have an issue getting tonight’s game in because of the crummy weather forecast. The tarp is already on the field pre-game. One spasm of rain and thunder should pass quickly, but storm clouds could return after game time.
