Bob Carpenter will return next season as the Nationals’ play-by-play announcer for games on MASN, a person close to the situation confirmed.
Carpenter’s status became uncertain late in the 2011 season when the Nationals did not exercise an option in his contract for the 2012 season. The sides recently reached an agreement that will bring Carpenter back under the terms of that option year. Carpenter’s status for 2013, for now, is up in the air.
Carpenter, who has broadcast Nationals games since 2006, will work alongside F.P. Santangelo for the second straight season. At the end of the season, Tracee Hamilton argued both should return.
MLB.com first reported Carpenter’s return.
