With the Nationals returning home to a cloudy forecast, Jason Samenow’s post on the Capital Weather Gang blog seems especially timely today.

It’s not just tornado numbers mounting at a feverish pace in 2011. Through Thursday, 22 major league baseball games have been rained out so far in 2011 (or in Denver’s case Wednesday, snowed out). That number already exceeds 2010’s season total of 21 weather postponed games less than one quarter of the way into this season.

In April alone, 17 games were postponed this season - the second most in the past decade. Only two games were postponed in April 2010.
