The Nationals haven’t made a move so far before the 4 p.m. trade deadline but adding Tracy is a valuable addition to the roster — a left-handed bat off the bench that Manager Davey Johnson values. Tracy, 32, was one of the most effective pinch hitters in baseball before he pulled his surgically repaired groin running out a double on May 26. He went 6 for 18, and his nine pinch-hit RBIs still left him tied for second for the major-league lead.
Tracy rehabbed with Class A Potomac and Syracuse. In six recent games with Syracuse, Tracy went 9 for 19 with a home run and three RBI. Brown, 26, a left-handed outfielder who can play center field, went 3 for 16 with the Nationals, notching his first major league hit, a home run, on Saturday.
