Shortstop Ian Desmond will return to the lineup this afternoon after missing two games with a left quadriceps injury, alleviating any concern that the injury would turn into a long-term issue.
Desmond injured his quad Friday night, remaining in the game after he felt a small strain in his upper leg. He did not play Saturday or Sunday, with Alex Cora taking his place at shortstop.
This season, Desmond is hitting .221/.248/.368 with three home runs and 13 stolen bases, which ties him for third in the majors, while only getting caught once. Desmond has eight errors this year, but just one in his last 15 games.
