Ivan Rodriguez has been scratched from tonight’s Nationals lineup with a back injury, and Wilson Ramos will take his place tonight. Rodriguez has been playing once every three games, which has got to make the apparent injury frustrating for him. We should have more on the extent and nature of Rodriguez’s injury later.

There are a few other Nationals injury notes.

>>> Laynce Nix is out after leaving another game last night with soreness in his right foot and Achilles’. Nix was “real gimpy” coming off the field last night, Manager Davey Johnson said. Johnson planned on pulling, and he did after Nix told him, “I can go, but I’m not moving that great.” Rick Ankiel is in center tonight, with Roger Bernadina moving to left.

>>> Jerry Hairston played catch today for the first time since he broke a bone in his right wrist. He threw lightly, nothing more. He also stood in the batting cage with a bat to track pitches, but he didn’t swing. Hairston hopes to hit off a tee either tomorrow or Saturday. He said his wrist is still sore, “but I knew that going in.”

>>> Doug Slaten played catch today for the about the fourth time since nerve irritation in his left elbow sent him to the disabled list a month ago. Slaten said he’s close to heading to Florida, where he would pitch in the Gulf Coast League and begin working his way back to the bullpen.
