Matt Stairs released, Bryan Harper in the fold

Nationals draft pick Bryan Harper, the brother of 2010 first overall pick and Class AA Harrisburg outfielder Bryce, announced on his Twitter feed that he is set to sign with the Nationals and report to their Gulf Coast League facility in Viera, Fla. The Nationals chose Bryan Harper, a 6-foot-5 left-handed pitcher, in the 30th round out of South Carolina this summer.

Also, the Nationals announced that they have unconditionally released pinch-hitting specialist Matt Stairs. The Nationals designated Stairs, 43, for assignment last week. Stairs is free to sign with any major league team and will take time before deciding if he will try to play again or retire.
