Nationals’ Adam LaRoche to make spring debut Wednesday

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche will make his spring debut Wednesday against the Cardinals as planned, he said this morning.

LaRoche has been sidelined for roughly a week by a sprained left ankle, and he used the time off to also rest his surgically repaired left shoulder. Tomorrow will be LaRoche’s first game action since last May, and he looks forward to testing his shoulder, which he said no longer affects him at the plate at all.

LaRoche turned his ankle during a base running drill last Tuesday. “It feels better every day,” LaRoche said. He still feels the injury when turning around bases — “not necessarily pain,” — he said, but it has not affected him in the batter’s box.

Adam Kilgore covers national sports for the Washington Post. Previously he served as the Post's Washington Nationals beat writer from 2010 to 2014.
