MLB handed Nationals minor league reliever Zech Zinicola a 50-game suspension for his second violation of baseball’s minor league drug program. A press released specified Zinicola had tested positive for a “drug of abuse,” meaning Zinicola has not been charged with taking performance-enhancing drugs.

Zinicola, 26, has been in the Nationals’ farm system since 2006, when they drafted him in the sixth round. Last season, Zinicola appeared in 32 games between Class AA Harrisburg and Class AAA Syracuse, posting a 2.01 ERA in 40 1/3 innings while striking out 44 and walking 13.
