The Nationals announced they will officially begin 2012 spring training when pitchers and catchers report Feb. 19, with position players reporting Feb. 23 and the first full workout coming Feb. 25. The Nationals have a tentative spring training game schedule available on their official Web site, with the first exhibition scheduled for March 3 in Kissimmee, Fla., against the Astros.

One other quick note: When Nationals pitchers and catchers gather, Livan Hernandez is unlikely to be there. Three teams have shown interest in Hernandez as a starting pitcher, and the Nationals are not one of them. While Hernandez has expressed his desire to return to Washington, even as a long reliever if necessary, the Nationals’ deep pitching staff leaves no room for the 36-year-old who threw the first pitch in franchise history.
