Plans for Stephen Strasburg, plus lineups

After limiting Stephen Strasburg to 56 and 57 pitches, respectively, in his first two starts of the season, Nationals Manager Davey Johnson plans to have a “longer leash” on the 23-year-old right-hander tonight, saying he plans to push Strasburg beyond 70 pitches against the Florida Marlins.

As for the remainder of the season, Johnson said nothing has changed regarding the plan for Strasburg. He remains on track to start at Nationals Park against the Atlanta Braves on Sept. 23 (on five days’ rest for the second straight time). The Nationals are also keeping open the option of starting Strasburg at Florida on the final day of the season, Sept. 28.

Meantime, here are the lineups for tonight:

Volstad — P
