Even on a miserably gray, rainy day, that’s still the best view in baseball, for my money.

The Nationals will have some roster maneuvering to do before the game starts tonight, if there is a game. The Nationals have done nothing officially to replace Jesus Flores, whom they optioned to Class AAA Syracuse yesterday, on the 25-man roster.

From what I can gather, utility infield Brian Bixler is in Pittsburgh, presumably to take Flores’s place. But he may also be on hand just in case Ian Desmond leaves to witness the birth of his first child and goes on the paternity list. Either way, the Nationals will wait to officially add Bixler until they’re certain a game will be played tonight – there’s no reason to add him to the roster before then, and they would have to remove someone from the 40-man roster, since Bixler is not on it.

Bixler, 28, last played in the majors in 2009 with, incidentally, the Pirates. Bixler has played 68 games in his career, hitting .178/.261/.341 in 166 plate appearances.

The last thing the Nationals need is another day off and ensuing doubleheader. It’s raining now, but not too hard, just one rung up from a drizzle. We’ll keep you posted.
