In need of a starting pitcher because of their Saturday doubleheader, the Nationals will recall 2007 first round pick Ross Detwiler from Class AAA Syracuse to make his first start this season. The Nationals will option Collin Balester to make room for Detwiler, who becomes the Nationals’ seventh starting pitcher this season.

Detwiler has gone 6-6 with a 4.53 ERA following a standout spring training. Last season, while fighting hip surgery, Detwiler went 1-3 with a 4.25 ERA in five starts.

Barring an unforeseen injury or transaction with the Nationals’ starting rotation, Detwiler will make just the one start Tuesday then return to Syracuse.
