Today’s Nationals lineup: Danny Espinosa at shortstop

After Danny Espinosa went 0 for 3 last night with three strikeouts – bringing his total to 10 in his past 16 at-bats – Davey Johnson moved him to shortstop today. He wanted to give Ian Desmond a breather, but also “just give him something to think about other than his hitting,” Johnson said.

“I like where he’s at,” Johnson said, “but he’s not quite where he wants to be.”

Roger Bernadina was originally in today’s lineup, but he will not return to the team from his father’s funeral in Curacao until tomorrow. Corey Brown, over from the minor league side, will replace him. Ryan Zimmerman and Xavier Nady also have the day off. Here’s the full lineup.

1. Steve Lombardozzi, 2B

2. Ian Demsond, SS

3. Chad Tracy, 3B

4. Jayson Werth, RF

5. Adam LaRoche, 1B

6. Jesus Flores, C

7. Corey Brown, CF

8. Brett Carroll, LF

9. Stephen Strasburg, SP

One last note: Chad Durbin’s wife gave birth to the couple’s second child yesterday morning. He will rejoin the team in Fort Myers, Johnson said.
